I love listening to music. The best thing about music is that its soothing to ears and help a person release stress in a better way. The impact of music in my life is so high that I decided to learn it at the age of thirty-three. Though, a bit late, but still not late enough to nourish my hunger for knowledge in the concerned field.

As far as my childhood memories are concerned, I still remember that I always enjoyed music in every form. Whether a lullaby, a devotional song, a hymn, folk song or a movie mix, I always cherished every form of music and always tried to explore more of it to enjoy it from my heart.

  • It boost the mood of a person and helps to stay happier from within. Music can keep a check on your mood swings. If you are feeling irritated or low, just listen to a happy and lively song, and you will start feeling the difference soon. In fact, researches have proven that it has the capability of providing a same degree of happiness to people that can be derived from eating chocolates or having sex.
  • Studies have proven that music has a considerable impact on child’s brain and helps in brain development in a positive way. That is the reason music therapy is used to treat kids suffering from autism. It is known to enhance verbal and visual skills of a child.
  • In fact, it is considered as an antidote for aging brain and helps the brain of the aged people to stay healthy and respond properly.
  • When you are happy, your Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, and Pulse Rate remains healthy. Isn’t it a great way to stay healthy and jovial?
  • As it is known to reduce stress and anxiety, it automatically helps you to get an optimum sleep.
  • When you sleep well, your immune system stays healthy. Also, it keeps a check on depression.

Over the years, people have been listening to music. Initially, it was a Gramophone that allowed people to feel the bliss of music. With the advent of technology, other gadgets like radio, transistors and music systems were introduced.

The invention of wireless Bluetooth speakers in today’s time is something that is a commendable thing. Now, people can listen to their favorite music anywhere they want and that too wirelessly. Isn’t it cool?

That is the reason, why most of us these days own one of these devices at home.

Aspergers Symptoms Are Treatable

Aspergers is a disorder that is very hard to diagnose because it has variable symptoms and no two people with this disorder act the same. To realize if your child has Aspergers is not an easy thing. However there are some symptoms you can try to observe. Aspergers treatment is only possible by managing the symptoms and because the symptoms are varied, every child with Aspergers must be treated according to their own symptoms.

Children with Aspergers have a normal cognitive and language development. The problems start when they interact with other children. People with Aspergers Syndrome have difficulties understanding the facial expressions of the others, they don’t like eye contact and they don’t understand metaphoric statements. They show no physical signs like children with Down syndrome.

Also no genetic reason or chemical imbalance is found for Aspergers Syndrome. This disorder is considered to be in autism spectrum. This means that it is a kind of autism, differentiating only by its severity or rather its lack of severity. Aspergers is on the high functioning end of autism spectrum. It has very similar characteristics like eye contact problem or repetitive behavior but these symptoms are less severe in children with Aspergers disorder.

There are extensive tests to be able to diagnose Aspergers Syndrome. Once these tests are conducted and a diagnosis is reached, it is very essential to let the child know about the disorder. Children with this disorder see the world from a different window. They are very capable to understand the behaviors of their peers. Because of their disorder they are generally isolated and they don’t like to be around people. However this does not mean that they don’t like people or they don’t want to have friends.

They like people and they would like to have friends but they can’t show their feelings and their facial expression usually make people think otherwise. They are extremely intelligent and have a tendency to learn excessive information about a single subject.

In an article published in the New York Times a diagnosis specialist writes if Sherlock Holmes was a real person he would probably be diagnosed with Aspergers Disorder. His loneliness, attention to detail and areas of interest can all be interpreted as Aspergers symptoms. When children with this disorder grow up, they usually become very successful people in the areas they choose. The hardest time they live is their childhood and adolescence. To give them the highest possible quality of life their parents must undertake the hard job of protecting them.

Aspergers is a difficult disorder to deal with. However if we compare it to other disorders like Dawn or autistic disorder, the people with Aspergers are more lucky. They can have a full, productive life. They can get married, have children and work in a normal environment.

When it is diagnosed early, Aspergers treatment shows more promise. Some symptoms can be alleviated more easily when they don’t turn into bad habits. Once the person with Aspergers understands the differences with other people and problems he can face everything becomes easier.

Apps and Autism Spectrum Disorder

Jasmine, daughter of Henry and Susanne Williams, was born 13 weeks premature in 2008. She has autism spectrum disorder, has never spoken, but still attends her local junior school. Jasmine is well-integrated in her school life, including studies and extra-curricular activities. But it’s the “What’s the Expression” and “All Sorts!” apps that she is really hooked on to. Jasmine runs these two apps on her iPad and that’s what makes a big difference to her learning.

Both the apps serve two purposes. One, they impart learning through doing; and two, they help in developing communication among children with autism spectrum disorder.

Paula Greene, Jasmine’s special support assistant and personal instructor, says that the “What’s the Expression” and “All Sorts!” apps have replaced less hi-tech communication tools, like books with stick-on pictures of various objects. These apps are regularly updated with new features that ease frustrations of autistic children. The apps have given Jasmine a voice.

Spending a day watching Jasmine and Paula work with these two apps is fascinating. All common assumptions regarding the capabilities of an autistic child are challenged the moment Jasmine starts using the apps in sophisticated ways. She is more confident with the app technology than many adults. Her father Bill has the same thing to say. Jasmine has even shown Bill some features of the iPad that he didn’t know about.

Experts who have been working with autistic children for a long time, says that if autism apps can give the kids a voice to express themselves, it’s worth the expense. They say, we need to see it in the same way like giving a wheelchair to a person who can’t walk.

People are preferring autism apps to other learning aids for special needs children. The apps are beginning to have a big impact on such kids. What more, “What’s the Expression” and “All Sorts!” apps can be customized to suit each student’s needs. But one has to start with specific requirements of the learner. The level of autism varies among those affected. It’s necessary to gauge the extent before the apps are handed over to the child.

Children on the autism spectrum are increasingly turning their tabs and smart phones to tools for assistive tech.

Paula says that the popularity of “What’s the Expression” and “All Sorts!” apps among children on the autism spectrum have been remarkable. It gives them more options to express themselves and more ways to connect with the rest of the world. Contrary to the popular belief that tabs and smart phones are having a negative impact on kids, the truth is, these gadgets have opened up a whole new world to children with autism spectrum disorder.

Not only are the apps a new form of technology that helps enhance and streamline communication among children with autism, they are also helping reduce the stigma that often follow the use of assistive tech. Paula says, many special needs children were reluctant to use apps like “What’s the Expression” and “All Sorts!” in the past. But parents are now more than willing to allow the use of these apps.

The Benefits Of Inclusion For Children

What is inclusion?

Inclusive childcare, preschool and school programs incorporate children with disabilities into the mainstream program. Each child, regardless of ability/disability is encouraged to actively participate in all activities, routines and play experiences offered by the chosen curriculum. Focus is on the strengths of each child, while also addressing the specific needs of the child with disabilities based his/her impairment. All children are viewed as deserving a quality of life in which they can have opportunities to learn and feel safe, loved and valued. Each child may make a different contribution depending on their abilities, and these are considered equally important.

Benefits of inclusion

For typically developing children

An inclusive child care program is an opportunity for children to learn about respect for difference, and to develop new forms of communication, empathy, and friendship. Typically developing children can learn to respond to others’ needs and take on a teaching/helping role. Inclusive education at an early age would teach children to be sensitive to others needs and would lead to positive relationships for the future. Children are naturally curious about what makes people different from themselves, and having an inclusive program is an opportunity for children to ask questions, explore differences and establish similarities.

For children with disabilities

An inclusive program provides learning opportunities for children with disabilities, that otherwise would not have been experienced in specialized schools. These children would be in close proximity to their typically developing peers, and as a result are able to acquire cognitive, language and social skills through observing and interacting with their peers. Because it is in the nature of children to explore why other people are different from themselves, it is important for the carer/teacher to facilitate this inquisitive process. The carer/teacher can assist a child with disability and other children in understanding why he/she is different. Differences are not bad, and should not be treated as such. When differences are talked about, the children will feel more comfortable in accepting others. A part of this process is for the child to be able to express what is different/unique about him/her. Becoming comfortable with this will prepare the child with disability in dealing with discrimination if it should arise.

Another benefit of inclusive education for children with disabilities is that the principle of inclusion incorporates values like participation, friendship and respect for diversity. Having a disability is likely to be not the only thing different or special about a child. Disability crosscuts all cultures and income levels, and so an atmosphere of inclusion would also embrace cultural differences between people.

The Negative Side Effects of Wireless Technology and How to Minimize Troublesome Symptoms

Wireless technology is making life increasingly convenient, but with all the upside, there is a downside that may be having a huge negative impact on your overall quality of life.

Restless sleep, foggy brain, memory problems, moodiness and unexplained aches and pains are just a few symptoms that can develop as the result of exposure to wireless technology. More and more studies are indicating that constant bombardment by the intense, high-frequency radio signals that are associated with WiFi and wireless devices might even be producing more serious consequences, such as cancer, autism, and immune system disorders. By taking the ten easy steps noted below, you can reduce your risk of harm from wireless radiations and minimize uncomfortable symptoms.

  1. If you have wireless internet service, turn off the power to your router/modem boxes when your computer is not in use. Some routers are contained inside the modem. In other cases, the modem connects to a router and then those two units connect to your computer. ALWAYS turn off the power to the router before you go to bed. Just turning off your computer will not stop the high-frequency, wireless signals, which are being broadcast from an antenna inside or on top of the router box, not your computer.
  2. Cable companies and even DSL suppliers are now regularly providing routers that convert the cable or DSL signals to a high frequency radio signal, and then broadcast the signal from a small antenna inside the router box. The antenna broadcasts in all directions, with a typical broadcast radius of 100 to 500 feet or more from the antenna. Having a high frequency radio wave transmitter in your environment is like having a miniature radio station in your home or office. These aerial “wireless” signals can be picked up by any computer within appropriate range that has wireless capability. This local area wireless networking is called WiFi, which means “wireless fidelity”.

    If a router is associated with your computer set-up, do not assume that just because your computer is plugged into a cable or a phone line, that you do not have wireless service. If you can access the internet from another computer in your home that is not connected directly to a cable or DSL line, your router is broadcasting a wireless signal. You will not be able to turn off the broadcast without turning off the power to the router or switching out the box to a type of router that does not have this wireless conversion capacity.

  3. On occasion, people find that even with no wireless router, they are still picking up a wireless signal. If you have a neighbor with wireless service and you are within 300 feet of their router, their wireless signals may be broadcasting through your space. A solution here could be ask the neighbor to turn off the power to their router before they go to bed, for your sake and theirs.
  4. Turn off your cellular telephone, iPhone and other wireless communication/multi-media devices, or set them to “Flight Mode”, when not in use. As a general rule, limit cell phone usage, especially lengthy calls. For lengthy calls, use a land line, or make several shorter calls instead, with break periods in-between. Another option is to use a headphone and move the telephone as far away from you as possible.
  5. Do not, under any circumstances, use the type of cellular phone that you attach to your ear.
  6. Do not think that by attaching a simple EMF protector tab (many varieties are sold these days) to your phone that you are actually protected from the effects of high-frequency radiation from your phone. These so-called protection devices DO NOT PREVENT high-frequency radiation from heating up your brain tissue and affecting you in other ways when you use your cell phone for an extended period. In the case of Bluetooth phones (like Blackberries) and headphones, you do not even need to make a call for the radiation effect — just having the phone turned on and in close proximity will irradiate every cell in your body.
  7. Charge your cellular or cordless phone on its charging base, and then unplug the base unit until the next time you need to charge the phone.
  8. If you have wireless devices in your home or elsewhere, such as a wireless printer in your office, unplug these devices when not in use.
  9. Spend more time in natural settings like parks and forests, or even your own backyard – places where there are trees, flowers, and other plants. If you like gardening, do more of it. Getting close to the soil (repotting plants, digging or weeding garden beds, etc.) is especially beneficial.
  10. Increase your iodine intake. Iodine is a well-known remedy for radiation poisoning. I personally take a special formulation called Atomidine, which was prescribed by Edgar Cayce in over 800 of his cases. You can purchase this product online. Be cautious with iodine supplements, as iodine can build up in your system and cause a variety of problems. You should check with you doctor prior to adding iodine to your health regime.

While the ideas noted above will not totally eliminate your exposure to wireless radiation, if you implement all these steps, you will greatly minimize your exposure and reduce the potential of experiencing the associated side effects.

18 Accommodations and Modifications For Child in Special Education With Auditory Processing Disorder

Are you concerned that your child in special education may have Auditory Processing Disorder, because they seem not to understand verbal communication? Has your child with autism already been diagnosed with this disorder? Would you like to learn what accommodations and modifications can be given at school, to help your child with their education? This article will discuss 18 accommodations and modifications that you can ask for as you advocate for your child who receives special education services.

Auditory Processing Disorder is the inability to attend to, discriminate among, or understand auditory information. This does not mean that your child cannot hear, but that what they hear gets mixed up in their brain. This disorder causes many educational difficulties for children, which can be helped by accommodations and modifications.

Accommodations are defined as: Changes made in how a student accesses and demonstrates learning, and adjustments made to the presentation to or response from the student that does not change the content or the intended outcome. In other words an accommodation, is a change in presentation or in how the child responds, but does not change the content itself.

Modifications are defined as: Changes in what a student is expected to learn and demonstrate, and changes in content, requirements, and/or expectations. You should be careful that modifications are as minimal as possible so that expectations for learning can remain high!!


1. Reduce or minimize auditory distractions

2. Reduce or minimize visual distractions

3. Flexible preferential treatment

4. Provide isolated area in the classroom for independent work

5. Make sure that the teacher has your child’s attention before giving verbal information or directions

6. Use visual clues, outlines, organizers and study guides as needed

7. Use technology to give visual clues (overheads, computers, etc)

8. Provide teacher notes

9. Use manipulative’s

10.Provide alternative test taking options

11.Extend testing time

12.Use an FM system

13. Use ear plugs to reduce distractions


1. Reduce language level or reading level of assignments

2. Adjust difficulty level and length of assignments

3. Provide alternative grading system

4. Avoid penalizing for spelling errors

5. Read test to student (this could be a accommodation, but it does change the expectations, so I included it in modifications)

By knowing what accommodations and modifications are available that could be used to help your child learn, you can advocate for these. A child with Auditory Processing Disorder can learn with special education services as well as accommodations and modifications.
